Laura Bulluck on Why She Gives & AmazonSmile

“Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21). We are so grateful to be part of a church family that so exemplifies this verse. West Raleigh hands, hearts and souls help feed the hungry, build shelters for those in need, minister the community, assist refugees, and visit the lonely and sick. The list of caring goes on and on. This is a church with a really big heart. Being surrounded by so many kind, generous and compassionate people inspires us. It also changes the calculus of what is possible and how much just one person really can make a difference.

Contributing to West Raleigh with time, talents and money fulfills a spiritual need and helps ensure the important missions of our church continue. Being engaged with the people of our church has expanded our view of the world and exposed our family to new ideas and other ways to think about things. We love, laugh and cry together. We have taken care of each other, encouraged and supported each other. We are a family, part of a much larger church family and we receive far more than we give.

With this pledge season underway and the holidays fast approaching, I would like to share an additional means to contribute to the church and its missions. If you are not familiar with AmazonSmile, it is a program that donates 0.5% of your eligible purchases on Amazon to a charity of your choice.  Although 0.5% is not a large amount, is still a great way to get an extra benefit from a service you're using anyways. If you normally shop on Amazon.com and would like to try the program, just log into smile.amazon.com instead. There, you can select a charity of your choice including West Raleigh Presbyterian Church.

Then when you plan to buy something from Amazon, logon to  smile.amazon.com. The prices are the same on both websites. Products on AmazonSmile that are eligible for charitable donations are marked "Eligible for AmazonSmile donation” on their product detail pages.

Hint: You may want to add a bookmark to smile.amazon.com to make it even easier to return and start your shopping at AmazonSmile because purchases made logging on to Amazon.com instead are ineligible for the charitable donation.

Donations are made by the AmazonSmile Foundation and are not tax deductible by you.
