Arts Ministry

creationWe are called by God to be artists of a new creation. This creative vocation is a sign of the new life that is ours in Jesus Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we have received gifts of imagination, creativity, of poetry and song, of dance, drama and vision. How will you use those sacred gifts? We hope that you will be inspired as you seek to respond to your creative calling.

The WRPC Arts Ministry affirms that all people embody the divine creative spirit. We seek to glorify God through studying, appreciating, and creating art that inspires worship, enhances education, and engages the community we serve.

Charles Pettee and FolkPsalm offer a mix of bluegrass and new acoustic music featuring various Old Testament Psalms. The 3,000-year-old sacred poems of the Hebrews sound startlingly contemporary in their deeply human expressions of ecstasy, dread, defiance, and hope.  Charles will work with WRPC artists, songwriters, dancers, poets, writers and readers during Lent in workshops, Sunday School and a culminating concert.

The Voice of the Spirit gallery is located in the Fellowship Hall on the bottom floor of West Raleigh Presbyterian Church.  The gallery hosts 3 to 5 exhibits throughout the year on a specific theme.

The following forms must accompany any artwork submitted for exhibit in the Voices of the Spirit Gallery:

This winter marks the 20th anniversary of Tom Lohr's residence as Music Director at West Raleigh Presbyterian.  To honor this milestone, the Arts Ministry is preparing an exhibit in the Abiding Arts gallery (located near the elevator).  The exhibit will feature artistic interpretations of Tom's original compositions as well as other responses to his time leading the musics program - including the following video created by Liz Sayre.
